Hyderabad: Cabbie, police recruit held for sex attack

Guntur woman offered lift, attacked in moving car.

Hyderabad: A cab driver and an AR constable recruit who sexually harassed a 27-year-old beautician in a moving car were arrested by Rachakonda police on Friday.

The duo had offered to drop the victim in Guntur while she was waiting for a bus in LB Nagar early on Wednesday. When the victim raised an alarm they pushed her out and fled. The woman saw the vehicle's number and filed a complaint. The police escorted her home and handed her over to her parents. The suspects are D. Venu, a cabbie and B. Emmanuel, who is working for Capgemini and was selected recently as an Armed Reserve constable.

Police said the victim who was also learning fashion designing was staying in Madhapur. On Wednesday at around 3.30 am, she came to LB Nagar ring road to go to Guntur. The duo who saw her offered to drop her. Venu was at the wheel and Emmanuel was acting as a passenger.

After LB Nagar, Venu halted the car and started misbehaving with her. But when she tried to get out from the vehicle, he drove the car towards ORR. After stopping the vehicle at an isolated place, the duo started harassing her sexually.

“When she started shouting Emmanuel got down from the vehicle and fled, and Venu proceeded with the victim. Near Choutuppal toll gate, when he tried to sexually attack her again, she started screaming. Then he pushed her out and drove towards Hyder-abad,” police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat said.

The victim who saw the car's registration number came to the toll plaza and with the help of the staff called the police. A case of outraging the modesty of a woman was registered at Choutuppal police station and transferred to LB Nagar.

Police arrested the duo and seized a case and a bike from them. Police found that the car (AP 28TV 0051) was owned by one Shiva Kumar who works for a Central agency in Kothur. He owns two cars and had rented them out to the company where he was working. As the rental agreement expired recently, he rented it to one Raviteja. On Tuesday night, while Raviteja and his friend Nixon were at a eatery in LB Nagar, Venu and Emmanuel came there. They took the car from Raviteja after noticing the victim. The duo were remanded.
