Hyderabad: Working at night best to avoid surveillance
Hyderabad: A employee of the sand-filter unit at Bommalaramaram Mr. Yadagiri said the entire process would be carried out during the nights as surveillance from either police or revenue official was very less.
“By 2am, we complete the filtering process and shift the filter sand to trucks heading for Hyderabad. By morning, the load reaches sand addas at Chakripuram, Uppal, Tarnaka, Sagar Ring Road and Rethibowli near Mehdipatnam there,” he said.
He said that the organisers are now using mobile filter-units in tractors due to the frequent raids from revenue department.
“We lift soil from any assigned land and filter it wherever there is water available. By 2am, we hand over the filter sand to lorry owners,” he explained.
One load of filter-sand is being sold at Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000 at the units and sand lorry owners sell it at Rs 13,000 to Rs 17,000 per load based on the demand in Hyderabad.
Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district collector Ms. Anita Ramachandran said the revenue department has registered many cases against the illegal sand-filtering unit organisers and organised counseling sessions to them. “We have organised a joint review with DCP P.V.Giri,” she said.
