Hyderabad: In a joint operation, the Child Protection Line and MV Foundation rescued two girl children from an Endowment official’s residence on Wednesday and produced them before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).

Representatives from MV Foundation, which works against child labour, had been monitoring two minor girls, Suguna (13) and Laxmi (12), who were working at the residence of Endowment official of Nalgonda district, Mr Kondal Reddy at Srinidhi Apartments near Vanastalipuram police station, since one month.

After talking to the girls, the MV Foundation informed Ranga Reddy district Child Protection Officer (CPO) Mr Panuganti Sathish Babu. As per the directions of the CPO, members of the child protection line along with MV Foundation staff conducted raids on Mr Kondal Reddy’s residence and rescued the girls.

MV Foundation project officer A.V.M. Swamy told DC that Mr Kondal Reddy, his son Mr Bhaskar Reddy and his wife lived in the flat. “Bhaskar Reddy and his wife are software professionals. The CWC has questioned the couple for encouraging child labour. The CWC issued notices to all the three respondents and the hearing will be held on Friday,” he said.

CPO Sathish Babu said that the girls had been sent to a juvenile home at Nimboliadda and their parents had been counseled.

Labour department officials also visited the flat and took an information report from the two girls in which they revealed that their family was being paid Rs 4,000 per month.
