Hyderabad: While he was on the run, gangster Ayub Khan had visited his home in October and carried out his illegal activities in the city. A fresh case now registered in Chandrayangutta police revealed that Ayub had extorted money from his victims as recently as in October 2016. One of the victims, Syed Haji, lodged a complaint, saying Ayub came to his residence and threatened to kill him before taking away a lakh of rupees.
Chandrayangutta police on Tuesday took Ayub into custody for a day from Chanchalguda prison. Till his arrest on December 26, the gangster was a fugitive, for whom Hyderabad police had been looking for. The cops believed that Ayub had been hiding in Dubai. But he continued to visit his home and ran his illegal deals in the city, often under the nose of the cops themselves.
“He had come to Hyderabad and he used to involve in land settlements and extortion activities, even as the cops were searching for him. A few cops knew of his presence, but the arrest was not made,” said a source from Old City.
Meanwhile, senior officials from South Zone said they were not aware of his visit since he had used fake passports. The new FIR proved that Ayub was actively running his illegal deals. “This complaint by Haji was registered after December 26. We registered a case of extortion against him. The complainant had alleged that Ayub threatened him and took one lakh rupees from him,” said Y. Prakash Reddy, Inspector of Police, Chandrayangutta. Chandrayangutta questioned Ayub on Tuesday. He will be produced before the court on Wednesday.
