Notorious Criminal Arrested Following Encounter in Odisha, Sustains Bullet Injury

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha police arrested a notorious criminal following an encounter at Salipur in Odisha’s Cuttack district, nearly 60 km from here, on Saturday night.

The arrested criminal identified as Sushant Kumar Sahoo alias Lipu sustained bullet injuries on his leg during the encounter.

According to police sources, Sushant and his associates were planning for dacoity on Saturday night at a secluded place at Asureswar near Salipur when the cops raided them. On seeing the police team, the accused fired two rounds in a bid to escape from the spot. However, Sahu was injured in the retaliatory firing by police.

Sahoo was admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. His condition is said to be stable.

The police sources said that more than 54 criminal cases were pending against Sahoo at various police stations.

“A police team was engaged in patrolling when they got information that some criminals had assembled near Asureswar playground with a motive to plan for a dacoity. When the police team reached the spot, the accused opened fire. Later, he sustained a bullet injury in firing by police,” said a senior police official.

Some police personnel also reportedly sustained minor injuries in the encounter. One mobile phone, a firearm and some other articles have been seized from the criminal, police said.
