Wadakkanchery gangrape probe report not shared

Victim's lawyer clueless about progress of SIT's investigation in case.

THRISSUR: Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) who appeared for the alleged victim in the Wadakkanchery gangrape case on Friday refused to hand over a copy of the investigation status report to her lawyer during a hearing at the Wadakkanchery Judicial First Class Magistrate Court. Head of the special investigating team G. Poonguzhali on Friday submitted a status report on probe and informed that it was being done in a ‘proper way till now’. “However, APP K. Manoj Kumar was reluctant to share the report with me even though it was mentioned in the court that both lawyer for the victim and the prosecution was on the same side and normally such documents are shared,” C.R. Jaision appearing for the victim told this newspaper.

He said that SIT head Ms Poonguzhali was asked about why the accused persons were not questioned to identify the vehicle and the place of occurrence of the alleged crime near Thiruvulakkavu Temple and the vehicle in which the victim was taken to the place by the accused persons including the present CPM councilor P.N. Jayanthan and three others as claimed by the victim. “Poonguzhali did not properly answer my queries,” Mr Jaison said. The hearing was held on the plea of the victim in which she had said that she was not satisfied with the SIT probe and wanted an investigation monitored by the court. A new CrPC 164 statement of the victim was recorded earlier at Thrissur magistrate court.
