Rs 46 lakh seized from car near Chikkamagaluru
Chikkamagaluru: Unaccounted cash of Rs 46 lakh in newly released Rs 2,000 denomination was seized from people transporting it in a car by the District Crime Investigation Bureau in Chikkamagaluru on Friday.
DCIB sources told Deccan Chronicle that they received a tipoff about cash being transported in the car from Hassan to Chikkamagaluru. Three people, who were travelling in the car, failed to produce any documents and were taken into custody for questioning. Officials of the Income Tax department were informed for further verification of the source of the cash being transported in the car.
The sources, however, did not reveal the names of the people taken into custody, saying their identities would be revealed only after the officials are certain that the cash was unaccounted for. Another source said that those being questioned by the police are Kiran, Kumar and Kishore. A preliminary probe revealed that those in the car were commission agents who were engaged in exchange of currency notes and were transporting the cash to a source in Chikkamagaluru. The kingpin of the operation is yet to be identified, the sources said.
