Hyderabad: Doctor's details put on gay website

Techie held for creating fake profiles.

Hyderabad: A 29-year-old techie who allegedly harassed people by creating and posting their fake profiles on gay websites was arrested by Rachakonda cyber crime police on Friday. The victims included a reputed surgeon from the city, a small screen actor and four others. Suresh Thummala, selected victims from Facebook and created fake profiles of them. He also posted their contact details on his Facebook wall saying that they were gays.

Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagawat said that Suresh was working as technical lead in a software company in Madha-pur. He became depressed after his marriage failed, and started exploring pleasure in homosexual activities. “He and two other friends used to regularly browse Facebook and target random profiles. They also linked the original photographs of the victims and posted them on gay websites,” the commissioner said.

Mr Bhagawat said that he also posted the contact details of the victims on his Facebook wall saying that they were gays. He also called the victims repeatedly asking them if they were interested in homosexual activities. Police officials said that Suresh had targeted many people. Six of them, including a small screen actor, approached cybercrime police asking their profiles to be removed from the websites and requested the police not to take any action against the offender fearing about their reputation and public image.

But a doctor who fell prey to his activities filed a complaint with the police. Officials said they are also checking the role of his two friends, an unemployed youth and a private sector employee. Suresh was arrested and remanded to custody.
