Hyderabad: Man held for cheating jobseekers
Hyderabad: A man pretending to be a manpower consultant cheated over 80 people of Rs 50 lakh after promising them jobs in the Gulf countries. Police said Md. Khaled collected money from semi-skilled workers by promising them jobs as electricians, plumbers and in construction companies.
According to the police, Khaled had been ‘City Star Travels’ at Mehdipatnam crossroads for three years without permission from the Protector General of Emigration of the Union labour ministry. He convinced his victims that his agency was licensed and he was an authorised agent working for several overseas companies.
Police said he collected Rs 50,000 to Rs 1.6 lakh from each candidate. Apart from jobs, he also promised them a salary of Rs 1 lakh. “In order to convince the victims, he collected their passports,” senior police official from the Task Force said.
The police raided the office after receiving a tip-off from his victims.
