Bengaluru: Burglars have field day amid festivities

Five houses were burgled in various parts of the city since Monday.

BENGALURU: With many people going out of town on account of the long weekend and festivities, the burglars had a field day targeting vacant and poorly guarded houses. Five houses were burgled in various parts of the city since Monday.

In the first incident, burglars gained entry by breaking open the front door and made away with gold ornaments and a car in Kalkere in Ramamurthy Nagar police station limits.

According to the police, the theft took place early Tuesday and came to light at night when a neighbour informed the victim’s relative about the burglary. The complainant, Ramesh, who received a call rushed to the house.

A police official said that there was no security guard, no CCTV cameras at the house and the locality too did not have any cameras. After gaining access the thieves opened the almirah and made away with 40 grams of gold and a car.

In another incident the house of a Cisco employee in KS Layout was looted and Rs 7 lakh worth gold jewellery and silver articles were stolen. The complainant, identified as Nandeesh, said that when he returned on Monday night from Hassan, the front door of his house was broken open.

In the third incident miscreants broke into a flat located in Royal Homes near Jakkur and fled with 380 grams of gold valuables in Amruthahalli police station limits. The flat occupant, Sanjeev D, an employee of Bharath Electronics Ltd and his family had gone to Hubballi to celebrate Diwali.

They left for Hubbali on Friday and returned on Wednesday. They found the main door was broken and when they checked the bedroom, the almirah was damaged and gold valuables were missing.

In the fourth incident, Whitefield police received a complaint that the house of a cab driver in Hagaduru was burgled. The complainant, Ramachandra, told the police that he found his house was broken open and '80,000 in cash were missing.

Watching TV proves costly
Watching a soap opera proved costly on Tuesday for Ramaiah, a resident of Rajagopalanagar, after burglars sneaked into his house and decamped with gold ornaments and cash Rs 8,000.

According to the police, the incident took place on Tuesday evening when Ramaiah was watching television. The burglars got into the house, opened the almirah and made way with Rs 8,000 in cash and 80 grams of gold ornaments.

The incident came to light after the TV programme got over and Ramaiah went to check the other room and found it ransacked. He found the almirah locker open with cash and valuables missing.
