Ganesh Idol Immersion: Agiripalli constable, who was attacked by a drunk man, dies

KAKINADA: Agiripalli police station constable Gandham Narendra succumbed to head injury at a private hospital in Hyderabad on Monday. Narendra was on duty overseeing Ganesh idol immersion process on Sunday. He asked a Ganesh idol immersion procession organizer to conclude the programme fast as it was already 2.45 am.
Enraged at the cop's directive, one Ullasa Ramakrishn, 25, who was drunk, attacked the constable with a stick from behind. The constable fell unconscious and was admitted in a private hospital and was later shifted to a private hospital at Hyderabad.
Nuziveedu circle inspector P. Bala Suriesh said that the department had tried to provide better treatment at a private hospital at Hyderabad to Narendra but in vain. His body would be brought to his native place Polisetty Vari Gudem in A. Koduru mandal of NTR district. The police officials expressed grief over the death of the constable.
Meanwhile Bala Suresh said that the accused Ullasa Ramakrishna of Agiripalli village was arrested within 12 hours after the incident took place and he was produced before the court. He said that the police seized the log and the bike which the accused fled away with. Agiripalli police registered a case.
