Vijayawada: The AP police rescued a seven year-old boy abducted for a ransom of Rs 1 crore within a few hours after he was taken away from near the toll plaza between Thettu and Kavali. He was restored to his parents in the early hours on Monday.

According to Chilakaluripet town police, the victim Rajiv Sai, aged 7, along with his older brother used to stay with his parents Saravanan and Aruna in Chennai. His father was doing rice business in AP and Telangana.

The two brothers along with their mother arrived at their grandmother’s house in Chilakaluripet for the Dasara vacation. The brothers along with their maternal aunt went to the Durga temple on Sunday night and, after some time, the younger one wanted to go back home. The aunt dropped him near the home around 9pm. However, he failed to reach home.

The family started a search and alerted the police. However, around 11.30pm, the boy’s father in Chennai got a call on his mobile phone saying his son was abducted and a ransom of Rs 1 crore should be paid for his release.

The father was asked to bring cash to Marteru toll plaza near Vijayawada around 3.30am on Sunday. The police formed special teams and asked the father to engage the kidnapper in conversation and promise a payment of ransom soon.

The police tracking the conversation could find out that there was just two to three km distance between the father and the kidnapper. A senior police official in mufti joined the father in his car as he drove to the designated spot.

Meanwhile, the kidnapper changed the plan and asked the father to bring cash to a place near the Thettu and Kavali toll plaza.

The police could identify the car of the kidnapper and started chasing it. The kidnapper slowed down the car and pushed the abducted boy out of the car, causing minor injuries to him and then sped away in the cover of darkness. The police rescued the boy at about 5.45am on Monday. A search continued to arrest the kidnapper, who was suspected to be someone close to the family.
