Women spoke rudely first: Arrested auto driver to cops

Driver claims women harrassed him for parking his vehicle on the road.

Bengaluru: An autorickshaw driver, who had allegedly misbehaved with two women on Sunday night near Garuda Mall, has been arrested by the Ashok Nagar police.

The driver, Syed Moheeb (28), is a resident of JJ Nagar. While the women took to social media to bring the incident to the notice of the police claiming that the auto driver misbehaved with them, Moheeb told the police that the women verbally abused him first and later began recording him when he questioned them for their unruly behaviour.

According to the police, Moheeb had parked his auto near the mall when the two women, the complainants, came near his rickshaw and started abusing him for parking it on the road. Moheeb told the police that he did not understand what they were saying as they were speaking in English and asked them to speak clearly. The women did not stop and continued to speak ill, provoking him to raise his voice. When Moheeb spoke angrily, the women recorded him and posted online, making him a culprit, he told the police.

“I was sitting inside my autorickshaw when the two women came near my vehicle started shouting at me. Neither I stared at them nor I misbehaved. The video they shot has only me speaking. If it had the full conversations, things wouldn’t have been this complex,” Moheeb told the police after arrest.

The complainants had alleged that Moheeb abused and misbehaved with them when they questioned him for parking his rickshaw on the footpath. The police, who had registered a suo moto case after the women approached the police through social media, are investigating the case.
