Kerala: Women's panel to probe exile of slain girl's family

The exile of the family took place following allegations raised by the public on the involvement of the family members in the crime.

KOLLAM: The Kerala State Women's Commission will probe the ‘exile’ of the family of the seven-year-old girl Sreelakshmi who was raped and murdered in Kulathupuzha last week. The exile of the family took place following allegations raised by the public on the involvement of the family members in the crime. The mother of the girl had earlier alleged that the public denied permission to cremate the body of the girl in their house compound. She had also alleged that the family was exiled and that the public accused them of "immoral" behaviour. The family has moved into their relatives' house in Kilimanoor.

"The investigation is under progress. We are questioning the accused for further evidences. The allegations raised by the public will also be verified by the team," A. Abhilash, Anchal CI told DC. Meanwhile, the local residents raised concerns that the girl had been raped several times before the incident, which were known to her mother. The body of Sreelakshmi was found abandoned in a rubber plantation in Kulathupuzha on Thursday last week and the police arrested Rajesh, 24, of Chandanakkavu in Kulathupuzha in connection with the crime. Sreelakshmi, daughter of Suji of Suji Vilasom at Punchirimukk in Yeroor here went missing after she had left for school on the day before she was found murdered.
