Bengaluru: Speeding car kills woman sitting in front of house

The neighbours alerted the police and they arrested Ajmal and seized the vehicle.

BENGALURU: Three people, including two women, died in separate incidents in the city since Saturday night in Pulikeshinagar J.P. Nagar and International Airport traffic police station limits.

In the first incident a 52-year-old woman was knocked down by a speeding car, while she was sitting in front of her house along with her husband in Pulikeshinagar traffic police station limits. According to the police the deceased has been identified as Rose Mary and the incident happened at around 7 pm on Saturday. The car driver, Ajmal, lost control over the vehicle and drove into Mary’s house compound and she died on the spot, while her husband had a narrow escape.

The neighbours alerted the police and they arrested Ajmal and seized the vehicle. Pulikeshinagar traffic police have registered a case under Sections 279 and 304 A of IPC in this connection.

In the second incident a 31-year-old marketing executive succumbed to injuries early Sunday after his scooter was hit by a speeding lorry in front of Indian Air force Gate on Ballary-Bengaluru Highway on Saturday night.

Police have identified the deceased as Santhosh, 31, a resident of Kamlanagar and an employee of Pressco Company. The accused driver, identified as Sheikh Fakruddin, 50, a resident of Bagepalli, was arrested and the vehicle was seized.

According to the police, the accident took place around 10.45 pm on International Airport Road. Investigations revealed that Santhosh was heading towards KIA on his Honda Activa when a speeding lorry hit his vehicle from behind. Santhosh fell on the ground and sustained injuries on both legs.

Passersby alerted the police, who visited the spot and shifted him to Prolife hospital, where he succumbed around 3.30 am on Sunday. Yelahanka police have registered a case.

Pedestrian mowed down
In a hit and run case, a 52-year-old woman died on the spot after a speeding car mowed her down near Ragigudda Arch in J.P. Nagar on Sunday morning.

The police have registered a case and efforts are on trace the accused driver and the car. Police said the deceased, identified as Nagrathanaamma, a resident of BTM was working in a house keeping department near Jayanagar. The accident took place around 8.30 am while she was crossing the road near Ragigudda Arch while on her way to work. A speeding car allegedly mowed her down and the driver fled.

On being informed the police reached the spot and shifted the body for post-mortem. J.P. Nagar police have registered a case and efforts are on to nab the accused driver.
