Drugs Worth One Crore Seized in Odisha

BHUBANESWAR: The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha police on Friday night arrested two drug peddlers and seized over 1 kilogram of brown sugar from them.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of STF, Bhubaneswar, conducted an anti-narcotic drug raid near Uttara-Pipili on the outskirts of capital city Bhubaneswar and apprehended the drug peddlers identified as Lipun Pandey, a resident of Pipili in Puri district, and Sk Abbash of Khurda.

During the search, the STF recovered contraband brown sugar weighing 1.80 kg (1080gm) and other incriminating materials from the possession of the accused persons.

The arrested duo will be forwarded to the Court of District & Sessions’-Cum-Special Judge, in Puri, the STF said in a release on Saturday.

An STF case in this connection was registered against the two under sections 21(c)/29 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 for illegal dealing/possession of narcotic drugs.

The special drive by Odisha STF against narcotic drugs has been continuing in the state. Since 2020, the STF has seized more than 72 kg brown sugar, 202 gm cocaine, 116 quintal ganja, 750 gm opium and arrested more than 178 drug peddlers /dealers.

The STF has destroyed over 60 kg seized brown sugar in the last one year.
