Telangana: Gold stolen from NRI's closed flat

The thieves broke open the lock of the main door and stole gold ornaments weighing 3.5 tola, half kg silver articles and Rs 20,000.

Hyderabad: Three semi-naked men broke into four flats, including the unoccupied flat of an NRI, and stole gold and silver from his house. No losses were reported from the other three flats, an office and two residential apartments. Using CCTV footage from one of the apartments police launched an investigation.

Police said the burglaries took place between 2 am and 3 am on Saturday at the Sriramnagar Colony in Kondapur. The four flats are located within a 500-metre radius.

One Mallikarjun, who owns a flat in Gopala Nilayam, is a techie in the US and his flat was closed. His mother was staying there but she left for the US a month ago.

“The thieves broke open the lock of the main door and stole gold ornaments weighing 3.5 tola, half kg silver articles and Rs 20,000,” detective SI K. Rajendra of Gachibowli police station said. After that, the thieves went to the other flats in Maruthi Nest Apartments and Balaji Enclave Apartments and to the Kare4U office, but nothing was taken from there.

The incident came to light on Saturday morning when Mallikarjun’s relative Ramesh Joshi came to the house and found the locks broken. He alerted the police. Police registered a case and on checking the CCTV cameras in Balaji Enclave they found that there were three suspects.

“This is the first time this modus operandi was used. We suspect some gangs from outside. Despite repeatedly sensitising on the need for CCTV cameras many residents have not installed them. We have told them to deploy guards to prevent such incidents,” SI Rajendra added.
