Hyderabad: A medical representative along with his family harassed his wife for dowry and forced her to consume a liquid mosquito repellent in Secunderabad. Police arrested the suspect, Shekhar, and his parents for attempting to kill his wife Swapna.
Police said, Swapna, a resident of Malkajgiri, married Shekhar two years ago. Shekhar, who hails from Marredpally, was working as a medical representative and Swapna was a housewife. Though life was normal for Swapna in the first year her husband and his family started showing their true colours after that.
Swapna’s parents had given her cash and gold as dowry, but her husband and his parents demanded more and had been harassing her physically and mentally since a year. The issue went to cops and they conducted a series of counselling meets. Shekhar and his parents used to assure the cops that they would change but harassment continued.
Meanwhile, they fought with her on Wednesday morning demanding additional dowry. When she said that her parents were helpless, Shekhar and his mot-her Kanakamma forced her to drink a mosquito repellant in an attempt to kill her, and Swapna became unconscious. Her parents who came to know this rushed her to hospital and later the police registered a case. After she recovered, police recorded her statement and arrested Shekhar, his mother, sister and a cousin.
