Class X student gangraped, killed; painter arrested in Vizianagaram

On Friday morning, the girl had gone to school, located at Gadelavasala, close to her hometown.

Visakhapatnam: A 15-year-old girl was abducted, allegedly gang-raped and murdered in the Gadelavasala area under Seethanagaram police station limits in Vizianagaram district. Though the incident is suspected to have happened on Friday afternoon, it came to light on Saturday morning after locals noticed the body of a girl floating in a pond.

The deceased was identified as M. Indumathi, a Class X student of a government high school and native of Reddayyavalasa under Bobbili mandal in Vizianagaram district.

On Friday morning, the girl had gone to school, located at Gadelavasala, close to her hometown. But the girl didn’t return home after the school hours.

Initially the girl’s parents thought that she may have gone to a friend’s place but when she did not return till late in the evening, they started looking for her.

DSP of Bobbili, S. Sowmyalatha said that a medical shop owner and two more persons in Gadelavalasa had seen the girl talking to D. Sankara Rao, a painter and native of Reddayyavalasa area, on Friday evening.

According to the police, primary investigations state that the culprits had in all probability, taken the girl to an isolated place, raped her and then killed her and threw the body into a pond.

“We have registered a case under Sections 376,302 and 201 of IPC and Sec IV of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. We have formed a special team to solve the mystery behind the murder of Indumathi,” said Sowmyalatha. Though police are suspecting that the girl was raped and murdered by the two accused, anything concrete can only be said after the post mortem.
