Hyderabad: Cabbie drives away with teens

The city-based relatives had sent a car to the airport to pick up the visitors and booked another cab through Ola.

Hyderabad: A cab driver associated with Ola has been taken into custody for allegedly driving away with three children from the Shamshabad airport on Friday morning. The driver, identified as Kishan, had picked up the children despite not having a booking.

According to an RGI airport police officer, a family of six persons arrived at Shamshabad in a flight from Mumbai on Friday morning to visit their relatives living the city.

The city-based relatives had sent a car to the airport to pick up the visitors and booked another cab through Ola.

When the visitors were waiting at the pickup point at the airport, a cab drove up to them and the driver asked them to board the car.

Two girls and a boy, aged between 16 and 20 years, boarded the cab, the police said.

Without asking for the OTP to confirm the ride, driver Kishan drove ahead even though he was asked to follow the car arranged by the city-based family.

At the parking point, Kishan picked his friend, identified as Hari, and made him sit in the cab along with the other passengers and drove towards the city.

“When the children asked them to follow their relatives’ car and picked up an argument, the driver stopped the car near a petrol pump on the way to the city. Meantime, the other family members reached the spot and argued with Kishan, alleging that he was kidnapping the children. The panicked driver removed the luggage from the car and fled, while his friend Hari was caught by the passengers,” said Shamshabad DCP N. Prakash Reddy. Kishan was traced and caught by the police who are questioning him and his friend Hari.

“We have the cab, its driver Kishan and his friend Hari. The driver claims that he works with Ola, and had got a booking cancelled due to which he wanted to hire the passengers. As Hari had completed his shift, Kishan wanted to drop him at Aramghar crossroads,” Mr Prakash Reddy said. “We are verifying the complaint to find if it was an attempt to kidnap or misunderstanding that led to the panic,” N. Prakash Reddy said.
