Bengaluru: Cab gang strikes again, techie abducted, robbed

4 armed men assault software engineer, take away cash before dumping him in isolated place.

BENGALURU: A 27-year-old software engineer was abducted and robbed by a gang of four armed men on the pretext of dropping him home in their car on Monday night. The gang made away with Rs 1,500 in cash and sunglasses worth Rs 2,200. A similar incident was reported in Parappana Agarahara police limits in the wee hours of Monday. The victim, Anshuman Singh, a resident of Bommasandra and a quality analyst with an IT firm near Silk Board Junction was returning home when the incident occurred.

He was waiting for an autorickshaw to go home after alighting from a private bus at Hebbagodi. Meanwhile, a cab driver stopped by and offered him a lift. An unsuspecting Anshuman got into the cab which had three people. Police said that as soon as the cab began moving, the trio in the car started beating him up demanding money. Anshuman tried to resist, but the trio forced him to part with his wallet. Before handing them his wallet, he dropped down one of the two ATM cards which had money in his bank account. The accused took Rs 1,500 in cash from the wallet and forced him to give them the PIN number of the ATM card.

The gang members took Anshuman to an ATM centre of the Syndicate Bank at Yedavanahalli and tried to withdraw money using his card. When they did not get cash from the ATM centre, they abused Anshuman accusing him of giving them a wrong PIN number. They took him to another ATM centre at Neraluru on Hosur Road where they found no cash in the victim’s bank account, the police said.

Meanwhile, the gang members who saw Anshuman wearing a gold ring demanded that he hand it over to them. But when Anshuman told them that the ring was given to him by a tantric and it had spiritual power, they did force him to part with it. The gang members snatched Anshuman’s sunglasses and forced him out of their car at an isolated place near Hebbagodi and sped away, the police said. Anshuman, who suffered bruises in the attack by the gang members, called his brother for help. He was treated for his wounds in a hospital before filing a complaint with Hebbagodi police early Tuesday. Investigation is on.
