Kochi: Man kills wife, hurts kids, hangs self
Kochi: A man allegedly committed suicide after attacking his wife and three children at home in Karuvelipady near Thoppumpady in the wee hours of Wednesday.
While Rafeek (51), a resident of Suhara Manzil, was found hanging from the ceiling of the drawing room, his wife Jancy (46), also known as Nasiya, was found dead lying in a pool of blood in the bedroom.
The children Jeffrin (21) and Saina (12) suffered head injuries and Shefin (18), a wound on his hand. Cops who reached the home around 1.30 am rushed them to a private hospital. They are out of danger.
“Jancy had a deep wound on the back of her neck from a suspected sharp object,” police said.
The cops suspect Rafeek to have first attacked his wife before proceeding to the next room where their children were sleeping. He allegedly hacked the elder son before turning to the other two.
Jeffrin recovered from the initial shock upon hearing screams of his brother and pulled back the attacker. In the meantime, Shefin switched on the light, and they were shocked to see that the attacker was none other than their father, police said.
They pushed him to the adjoining drawing room and yelled at him why he was attacking them. They then rushed to the other room only to find their mother dead, and by the time they returned, they found him hanging from the ceiling, police said.
Cops are yet to determine the motive of the attack as neighbours stated that they were a happy family with no known sources of financial or personal troubles.
“We are probing different angles. Primary probe reveals that the attack was not pre-planned as he had even brought food from outside for dinner," an officer said on the condition of anonymity.
"His was an inter-religious marriage. We’re checking whether he felt isolated from his relatives which might have put him in a state of desperation.”
Jefrin works as a delivery boy at a food chain in the city while Sheffin is an undergraduate student of economics. Saina is a Class V111 student.
