Chennai: Youth arrested for trespassing into women’s hostel, stealing Rs 80,000
Chennai: The city police has arrested a college student who had sneaked into a women's hostel on Greenways road and made away with `80,000.
The accused, Sarath Kumar( 21), a resident of the Greenways road and a student, managed to bypass security and enter the hostel.
The police said “he reached the campus at around 2 am on Monday. He moved to the third floor of the hostel and allegedly entered the room allocated for four women. Police said he allegedly abused the girls in their sleep and made away with Rs 80,000 kept in the cupboard. When the man was about to leave the room, one of the women woke up and alerted the other inmates. Later, some inmates informed the police and a police control room van rushed to the spot and nabbed him,".
However, the man managed to flee the spot.
Police who launched a search for him and found the man sleeping on the platform outside the hostel to evade arrest. However based on the CCTV footages from the hostel, police identified the man and recovered `80,000 from him.
The police said the motive behind the trespass was still not clear. The incident has raised questions not only about the safety of the inmates but also working women who take rented accommodations.
It may be noted that last month, a youth trespassed into rented accommodation in Ekkatuthangal.
