Hyderabad: A newborn baby girl of Vijaya and Mari Sabawat was kidnapped from Koti Maternity Hospital at 12 noon on Monday. Vijaya had delivered the child on June 27 and both parents had come with the child for immunisation. As Vijaya was feeling weak and her turn had not yet come, she became restless. Her husband had gone to get photocopies of Aadhaar card.
While Vijaya was waiting alone, a woman in a purplish blue sari appr-oached her. Vijaya says, “I thought she was one of the hospital staff and was assisting me. Hence I gave the child and also the papers. But when she didn’t come back after an hour I realised that something was wrong.”
Her husband also searched for the woman and child on the hospital premises in vain. A senior hospital staff on condition of anonymity said, “We have security at the gate which allows only 10 women at a time. The papers are checked before letting a woman out with the child. In Vijaya’s case, she gave the papers and the child to the woman, hence the security let the suspected leave.”
The CCTV footage showed a woman in purplish blue sari holding the baby and going out. She was last seen at MGBS bus stand, according to P Shiva Shanker Rao, inspector of Sultan Bazaar police station.
