Hyderabad cops' wife ends life over health

Saritha Rao, 45, was the wife of police official Uma Maheshwar Rao, now serving in the Range Office, was suffering from cancer for two years.

Hyderabad: Wife of a former police inspector of Jawaharnagar committed suicide by hanging at her residence on Monday afternoon due to depression arising from an incurable state of cancer.

Saritha Rao, 45, was the wife of police official Uma Maheshwar Rao, now serving in the Range Office, was suffering from cancer for two years, said inspector of Malkajgiri police station, Komraiah.

“Saritha was depressed over her ailing health and was concerned about it not improving despite undergoing treatment. On Monday afternoon at around 12.30 pm, she hanged herself in her bedroom while her children were in the hall, at their residence in HB Colony,” said the official.

According to officials, Mr Rao was at work when the incident occured. Saritha’s family alerted the cops about her suicide after she did not come out for long. Her husband and children broke the door to check on her and found her hanging.

There was no suicide note found by police officials from the spot. A case has been registered at the Malkajgiri police station under Section 174 of CrPC (suspicious death) and the dead body was sent for postmortem examination.
