Raju, wife severely wounded, children escape unhurt.

Bengaluru: A couple sustained severe injuries while their two children barely escaped with their lives after an old two-storey building collapsed on the shed in which the family was living at the time. The incident took place on Sunday night in Austin Town, in Viveknagar police station limits.

The injured have been identified as Raju, an electrician who has sustained severe head injuries and his wife, Parimala who has fractured her legs. Their two children were rescued by neighbours who rushed to the spot and saved the family. They were immediately rushed to the nearby hospital and are currently being treated.

The fire and emergency department, along with Viveknagar police, rushed to the spot and investigated the scene. The police said that the building was 40 years old and in bad state.

According to the police, Raju and his family finished their dinner and went to sleep around 9:30 pm. Around 11:45 pm, the two-storey building collapsed and fell on their shed, located next to the building. The children were sleeping right next to their parents and just about escaped. Passerby immediately rushed to the spot, pulled them out from the debris and rushed them to a nearby hospital.

Police said that tenants had only vacated the building two months prior to its collapse. Raju and his family had rented the shed beside it and had been staying there for the last month. The Viveknagar police have registered a case against Anand, the owner of the building for his negligence and are investigating.
