“The accident occurred due to the rash driving of the lorry driver.

Hyderabad: Three members of a family who were on their way to Renuka Yellamma temple in Balkampet were mowed down by a speeding lorry in Kukatpally on Sunday morning. A bike rider was also injured in the accident.

Police said the truck driver lost control and the truck rammed into a scooter ahead of it killing Narsimhulu, his wife Lalitha and daughter Sirisha on the spot.

Sadagandla Matsyagiri, who was on his bike behind the lorry, rammed into the lorry when it came to a sudden halt.

Police said Moraboyina Narsimhulu, 45, was a construction supervisor staying in Esukabavi village at RC Puram. His wife Lalitha, 40, was a housewife and their 15-year-old daughter Sirisha was studying in Class X. They were travelling on Narsimhulu’s scooter to the temple when, near Ramdev Hospital in Kukatpally, a lorry (AP 09W 7438) being driven at high speed hit their scooter from behind.

The three were flung in the air and the lorry ran over all the three.

Sadagandla Matsyagiri, a contract driver with the GHMC, going towards Ameerpet on his bike, said he saw the lorry hitting the scooter. “I applied brakes but I could not control my vehicle and it hit the lorry,” he said. He was taken to a hospital, where he is recovering now.

Kukatpally inspector K Purushotham said that a case of accidental death was registered against the lorry driver. “The accident occurred due to the rash driving of the lorry driver. We are checking CCTV cameras,” he said.

Truck driver Narsireddy has been detained. He was tested for alcohol, but was not drunk, the inspector added.
