Bengaluru: Two trapped in mangled car rescued after five hours
BENGALURU: Two people had a miraculous escape after their car hit a truck and they got trapped in their mangled vehicle for five hours at Shivananda Circle in Sheshadripuram early Saturday. They have been identified as Nagaraj, 33, a resident of Sheshadripuram and his driver Ganesh, 26, a resident of Kuruburahalli.
According to the fire and emergency officials, the accident took place around 1 am when the car, coming from Race Course Road, collided with a boulder-laden tipper lorry, which was heading towards Kumara Krupa Road.
“The officials received a call around 1 am from police control room, following which a 20-member team was pressed into service. The impact of the accident was so strong that the car’s steering wheel had moved to the left side. The front portion of the car got stuck between a lamp post and the tipper,” said K.U. Ramesh, fire and emergency officer.
He further said, “The rescue team with the help of two JCB’s and two cranes along with cutter had to cut open the car and rescued the trapped men in a five-hour long operation. Then with the help of cranes the lorry, which was laden with boulders and weighed nearly 50 tonnes, was shifted nearly 7-8 feet away. Later the injured were rushed to the hospital. While Nagaraj escaped with minor bruises, Ganesh sustained fractures,” Ramesh added. They were shifted to Mallige Hospital and are said to be out of danger.
According to traffic officials, the truck run amock, hit an electric pole and then crashed into a compound wall, but the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled. High Grounds police have launched a manhunt to nab the absconding driver.
