Bengaluru: Bike stunts cost two engineering students their lives

Around 10 am, as they were passing near Kumbapura Gate in Ramanagar, a KSRTC bus coming from Mysuru rammed into their bike from the rear.

BENGALURU: Two engineering students were killed on the spot after a KSRTC bus ran over them near Kumbapura Gate on Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway in Ramanagara on Saturday morning. It was alleged that the students were performing wheelie when the accident occurred.

Two others were also injured in the accident. The deceased, Abin P. Raveendran and Navjot Sahu, were 21 years old and were studying at Brindavan College of Engineering in Yelahanka. Abin was from Kerala, while Sahu hailed from Odisha. Both were living in a rented room in Hebbal. The injured, Thimmaiah and Madaiah, work as linemen with the KPTCL.

A group of students from Brindavan College of Engineering had planned to visit Bheemeshwari near Mutthatti. Seven students had left Bengaluru at 4 am on Saturday on four bikes. As all of them were from other states, they could not find the way to Bheemeshwari and decided to return. While coming back, they took the highway.

Around 10 am, as they were passing near Kumbapura Gate in Ramanagara, a KSRTC bus coming from Mysuru towards Bengaluru, rammed into their bike from the rear. Abin, who was riding the bike lost control and hit another bike on his left.

“Thimmaiah and Madaiah, who were on the other bike, fell towards the footpath, while Abin and Navjot fell on the road. The bus ran over them, killing them on the spot. The bus driver has been arrested,” the police said.

A few passersby alleged that the bike rider was performing a wheelie and it led to the accident. The police, however, denied it. “The complainant, Thimmaiah, has not mentioned any stunts by the students, but we are investigating. The parents of both the deceased have been informed and the postmortem will be conducted once they reach here,” the police said.
