Woman held for derogatory video against Tamil Nadu CM

The arrest was made based on the complaint of Anand of Hindu Makkal Katchi.

Chennai: The Cyber Crime Cell of Chennai police had arrested a 24-year-old woman for circulating derogatory video message against Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and BJP state president Tamilisai Soundararajan through WhatsApp and Facebook, on Saturday. The arrested person was identified as M. Suryadevi (24) of Manaparai in Tiruchirapalli district.

The arrest was made based on the complaint of Anand of Hindu Makkal Katchi. According to the complaint lodged in DGP office on May 31, Anand had alleged that the woman in the video message made disparaging comments against both the leaders.

According to police sources, the woman was arrested from a private lodge in Virugambakkam. The sources also added that the woman had reportedly made at least 4 such videos and circulated on the social media earlier. “As no complaints were received against her earlier, she had enjoyed impunity. In earlier videos, she also restrained herself from mentioning names, except the last video,” a source said. Suryadevi was remanded to judicial custody.
