HYDERABAD: K Sudershan, the I Additional District and Sessions Judge, on Tuesday sentenced a 41-year-old man to rigorous imprisonment for life for raping his only daughter, a 14-year-old, multiple times when she had returned home from her hostel during the lockdown. The judge also announced a compensation of ₹6 lahks to be paid to the victim.
In addition to the victim’s statement in court, the judge relied on the testimony of her younger brother. SP Vikarabad N. Koti Reddy appreciated the investigating team, court duty personnel, and the prosecutor who argued the case.
The case was reported to the Kodangal police in 2022. The victim, who used to stay in a government hostel, had returned home during the Covid lockdown. The victim’s mother died, and her father sent his mother to stay elsewhere, leaving him alone with the two children.
The victim did not inform anybody about the assaults and returned to the hostel after school resumed. Her father would assault her whenever she returned home for holidays.
However, last year, she complained to the hostel staff about pain in her private parts. On being questioned about it, she confided in them. The hostel staff went to the police who arrested the father. The court conducted a fast-track trial of the case.
