Molestation in Ola cab: Bommanahalli police arrests driver, owner
BENGALURU: In a twist to the molestation case, in which a singer was allegedly harassed by an Ola cab driver, the Bommanahalli police have arrested two people - the driver who impersonated as Ravikumar, and the owner of the car on charges of destruction of evidence.
Imran Khan, 25, who hails from Madhya Pradesh and a resident of BTM Layout Second Stage, is the one who allegedly impersonated as driver Ravikumar M and allegedly molested the woman. The car owner, Navin Rajput, a native of Uttar Pradesh and a resident of BTM Layout First Stage, was also arrested by the police.
After the police picked up and grilled Ravikumar on Sunday, it was revealed that he had left the job in February. Then, the police picked up the car owner and Imran Khan based on the information provided by him. "Imran Khan, the driver of the Ola cab has been arrested for the offences of molestation and impersonation, whereas Navin Rajput for abetment for impersonation and destruction of evidence," said Hemant Nimbalkar, Additional Commissioner of Police (East).
"Ravikumar, who was initially grilled by police, was driving the same cab but had left the job in February. Rajput, the owner, employed Imran Khan and used the log in details of Ravikumar to run the cab. Ravikumar was continuously asking for his documents like police verification certificate but Rajput kept on dodging him under various pretexts. Thus Rajput knowingly abetted the offence of impersonation by Imran," Nimbalkar added.
Further, after the incident, the accused duo went to Ola office and erased the details of Ravikumar and substituted it with some other name. The police are investigating this destruction of evidence. The involvement of Ola authorities is also being examined and investigated in the episode, Nimbalkar said, adding that a mobile phone and car used in the offence are seized by the police.
Meanwhile, police sources confirmed that the investigations have established that Imran Khan had molested the woman. "Even during the spot mahazar, where the complainant had stated that she had requested the security guard of a hospital, to let her inside after she managed to escape from the accused, the guard confirmed that the woman had approached him and had told him about the incident," an official said. The complainant has also identified the accused and provided details to substantiate her claims, he added.
