Hyderabad: Man stabbed over chicken curry

Accused knifed host's kin over delay in serving at wedding feast.

Hyderabad: A 28-year-old man was murdered after a row erupted over not serving chicken curry at an engagement ceremony in Hussainialam in Old City.
The victim and bride’s relative Anwar Khan from Shahgunj received stab injuries in his stomach and chest resulting in his death.

According to police, the incident occurred around 1.20 am at Tariqat Manzil function hall in Shahgunj area. Anwar was attending the engagement ceremony of his relative where one person Ashwaq Ali Khan came around 1 am.

“While the groom and his relatives were dining on a VIP table, Ashwaq along with his friend sat at another table. When they were having the food, Ashwaq shouted and later slapped the waiter alleging delay in service. He reportedly demanded that the waiter bring him a dish of chicken leg pieces,” Hussainialam inspector G. Shyamsunder said.

Hearing the commotion, Anwar, who was nearby, came and tried to pacify Ashwaq. “Ashwaq and Anwar pushed each other and the former left the venue to return along with his associates and picked up a quarrel again with Anwar. In a fit of rage, he pulled out a dagger and stabbed Anwar in the stomach. Another person Sohail, who tried to save Anwar, was also attacked,” the official added.

The guests rushed the injured to Osmania hospital where Anwar died while undergoing treatment around 3 am. Police identified the attackers as Md Shahrukh, Akbaruddin, Omer Ali, Azam, Soheib, Sohail Hussani and a few others.

A videographer at the function reportedly shot the incident. Elders from the community later reiterated that people should stop spending heavily on wedding related functions. Telangana State Minorities Corporation ex-chairperson Abid Rasool Khan said lavish spending should be cut down and the money used for constructive purpose.
