Kannur: In yet another shocking incident, the post-mortem carried out on a 70-year-old woman in Pariyaram Medical College on March 30, has revealed that she was raped before death. The elderly woman was found hanging on the same day at the house of her sister in Muzhakkunnu. A middleaged man was taken into custody on Sunday for interrogation, the police said.
The woman, who had been staying with her children and grandchildren at Pazhanchery, near Iritty, had come to her sister's house, which was closed for a while, on March 30. Muzhakkunnu SI P Rajesh, who is investigating the case, told this newspaper that they suspect that the woman committed suicide in the shock of the attack.
"The man is not yet arrested and so, his details can not be revealed now. We suspect no murder, but fear that she committed suicide in the shock of the attack against her. There was no suspicion from the relatives too, until the post-mortem was performed," the SI said, adding that the arrest would be recorded soon, after collecting sufficient evidence.
