Hyderabad police seize gutka worth Rs 1 lakh, two held
Hyderabad: East Zone Team of Hyderabad apprehended two people for selling and supplying banned gutka products. Officials seized gutka and tobacco products worth Rs 1 lakh from them. The accused have been identified as Anwar Ali, 54, of Royal Chalia store; and A.Sai Goud, 28, a private employee from Afzalgunj.
During interrogation, Sai Goud confessed that he was selling gutka, tobacco and cigarettes in his pan shop at Mothi Market. Since the government banned gutka and chewing tobacco products, he started selling chalias, sounf sweet masalas and also other pan products to people.
“Due to insufficient income, he planned to sell banned tobacco products in the market to gain easy profit. Meanwhile, he came into contact with one Anwar Ali, the owner of Royal Chalia store at M.J. Market and requested him to supply prohibited gutka, cigarettes and other tobacco products,” Addl. Dy. Commissioner of Police, Commissioner’s Task Force, S. Chaitanya Kumar said, adding that from then on, Sai had been purchasing the prohibited goods from Anwar and started selling the same to people and earned easy money illegally.
The arrested, along with the seized material, were handed over to Afzalgunj police for further investigation.
