Chennai: 3 kill ITI student for smart phone, arrested
CHENNAI: City police have arrested 3 robbers in connection with the murder of an ITI student.
The victim, R. Ranjith (18), a resident of Appu Street, Nungambakkam, was a first year electrical student at government industrial training institute (ITI), Guindy. He was murdered during late hours on January 20, while returning from a function held at Minjur, according to police.
Nungambakkam police have registered a case and grabbed CCTV footages recorded during the incident. During investigation, the police have found that unknown robbers killed Ranjith by cutting his throat after he refused to hand over his mobile phone to them, a police source said.
With the help of video footage, the police nabbed N. Karthikeyan (21) of Vadapalani, S. Naveen Kumar (22) of Saligramam, M. Siva Ganesh (21) of Porur on Friday.
The police said that the trio had allegedly chased Ranjith for his phone on the ill-fated night and murdered him.
Ranjith’s body was found on Tank Bund Road, 500 meters away from his residence on the night he was killed.
