Hyderabad: Former lecturer held for cheating
Hyderabad: A lecturer-turned-scamster who targetted bank and staff only on Wednesdays was arrested by the Sultan Bazaar police for cheating people under the pretext of selling properties to them and claiming that he is a distant relative of theirs.
Officials seized Rs 1.72 lakh from his possession. According to the Sultan Bazaar police, the man was identified as V. Renukadas Rao alias Chitti Rao, 63, a resident of Uppal and a native of Nizamabad.
“He goes to a temple on Wednesdays, and approaches a bank of his choice, where he chats with the staff and gets to know them. Once he has enough details, he claims that he is their distant relative and further gains their confidence. He then alleges that he is a HUDA employee and has properties for sale in Gachibowli and Kukatpally areas. He then asks interested people to pay an advance, collects it and absconds,” said Sultan Bazaar ACP Dr M. Chetana.
The Sultan Bazaar police started investigating the matter after recieving several complaints from victims.
With the help of CCTV footage, the police arrested Renukadas.
The Sultan Bazaar police sent a proposal to higher authorities to invoke PD Act against the man.
