Hyderabad: A third year diploma student of TKR engineering college committed suicide on Saturday due to the debts incurred through his habit of betting on horse races.
The police identified the victim as Puppi Reddy Sampath Reddy, 19.
He was living with two of his friends Ajit and Srinivas in NBR colony near Meerpet crossroads.
Ten days ago, Ajit went to his hometown Karimnagar and Srinivas was undergoing industrial training at Santoshnagar. Meerpet police inspector N. Yadaiah, said, “Srinivas went for his training on Friday morning at around 10.30 am and stayed at his friend’s room on Friday night. When he came back on Saturday at around 9.30 am, he peeped through the window as the door was locked and found Sampath hanging to the ceiling.”
“According to his friends, he used to bet on horse races and suffered huge financial losses. He went into depression and suspect that he might have committed suicide due to his debts,” added Yadaiah.
The police have registered a case under Section 174 CrPC and further investigation is underway. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
