Visakhapatnam: The city traffic police are chalking out plans to deploy women cops to conduct drunken driving checks at strategic points to catch tipsy motorists in Vizag. The police observed that few women drive in a rash manner under the influence of alcohol. A senior traffic police inspector on condition of anonymity said that during weekends few women (mostly from software companies and BPO and college students) consume spirits and race on the beach road. “We tried detaining some for drunken driving but faced problems checking them for drunken women as we have very few women traffic police constables,” he added.
“Women motorists in Vizag have fun while most men get caught for drunken driving and other traffic violations. A traffic violation is a violation as far as we are concerned and we will catch violators irrespective of gender in the future. We have plans to deploy women cops along the beach road and few other places to catch women motorists who are driving under the influence of alcohol,” said an official from the city traffic police wing.
