According to the NCRB data of 2016, 1,382 incidents of violence against senior citizens were reported in the state in 2016. This included 42 murders, seven attempts to murder, 43 robbery and other IPC cases.

Some 1,524 cases went to trial, both fresh and pending cases. Trials were completed in 226 cases with convictions in 120 cases. In the other cases, the accused walked free.

Mr V. Satyanarayana, DCP (south), explained that the conviction rate was better in these cases because the families of the senior citizens support them and cooperate with the police.
