Chennai: 1.5 tonne gutka products seized from car near Poonamallee

Chennai: A routine vehicle check led to seizure of nearly 1.5 tonne of gutka products from a car near Poonamallee on Monday. Police have arrested a man and a search is on for another who fled the scene.

On Monday around 11 am, Poonamallee traffic investigation police were checking vehicles on the Chennai-Bengaluru highway. On suspicion, they stopped a car bearing a Tamil Nadu licence plate.

 

However, the car did not stop after which a team of policemen chased the car for at least three kilometres before blocking it, the officials managed to nab the driver of the car however one man fled the scene.

On searching the car, they found 1.5 tons of gutka products packed in several gunny bags. The police immediately seized the vehicle and questioned the driver identified as Suresh Kumar (20) from Rajasthan. 

During the interrogation, the driver stated that the contraband was being transported from a warehouse in Bengaluru to Chennai. A case has been registered and further investigations are on.
