Bengaluru: Relatives held for helping accused flee from hospital

They have arrested Vishnu's brother-in-law, Rajesh Naidu, on charges of helping him escape from the hospital early Friday.

Bengaluru: Jayanagar police have launched a search operation to nab Geetha Vishnu, the grandson of liquor baron late D.K. Adikesavulu, who on Friday escaped from Mallya hospital while in police custody.

They have arrested Vishnu’s brother-in-law, Rajesh Naidu, on charges of helping him escape from the hospital early Friday.

Vishnu was undergoing treatment for minor injuries he sustained after the his high-end Mercedes SUV rammed into a Maruti Omni on Wednesday night at South End Circle in Jayanagar.

Six people, including children, who were travelling in the Omni sustained injuries as it toppled due to the impact.

Vishnu along with three other occupants of the SUV was said to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of incident.

The police also found 110 gm of marijuana in the SUV, following which Vishnu was booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The three others in the SUV escaped immediately after the accident.

The CCTV cameras at the hospital have caught Naidu escorting Vishnu from the emergency exit way. It is learnt that Naidu took Vishnu to his apartment from the hospital and then arranged a car for him to escape.
