Chennai: Two juveniles, 2 others held for burglary

Chennai: The city police, on Friday evening, arrested four persons, including two juveniles, for breaking into a house of a judicial staff in Kasimedu during the small hours on Friday.

The gang managed to decamp with cash Rs 16,000, a mobile phone and a two-wheeler parked in front of the house when they broke into the house of Joseph, (56), who is employed in George Town court.

The gang managed to break open the terrace door the house located on Tondiar Nagar II Street, and gained entry when the inmates were fast asleep. The gang could lay its hands on the cash kept in the purse of Joseph's wife, a mobile phone, and used the bike key lifted from the house to ride away on the bike of Joseph's son.

The strike came to light in the morning at around 6.30 when Joseph checked the portico to find the two-wheeler missing while his son was still in bed. He lodged a complaint with the Kasimedu police.

Acting on a tip-off, the cops traced the bike to the new wharf in Kasimedu, on Friday evening. The cops rounded up the quartet that was present with the bike.

The gang confessed to the crime, and petty cash, mobile, and bike were recovered from their possession.

The arrested were identified as P. Vasanth aka Vasanthakumar, (18), I. Hassain, (20), and the juveniles, aged 15 and 17, all residents of VOC Nagar, Tondiarpet.

Investigations revealed that the arrested adults had several criminal cases pending against them in Kasimedu and Fishing Harbour Police station limits. The 17-year-old too was earlier arrested in a theft case, and detained at the Government Observatory Home in Kelly's.

All four were produced before the court and Juvenile Justice Board, and the adults were remanded to judicial custody in Puzhal while the juveniles were lodged in Kelly's Home.
