Kottayam: Navy officer held on rape charges

Kottayam: The police on Saturday arrested Mr India Murali Kumar, 38, an Indian Navy officer, on rape charges.

Kottayam DySP R. Sreekumar said the victim had given a statement against him and he also faces non-bailable charges under the SC/ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act.

He befriended the young lady on the Facebook and allegedly raped her in a hotel room in town where she went to meet him the other day.

She had sustained vaginal injuries and is in the surgical Intensive Care Unit now.

The police is expected to produce the officer in the first class magistrate court here on Monday.
