Bengaluru: Woman kills two daughters, ends life over hubby's debts
Bengaluru: Depressed over her husband's huge debts, a 34-year-old woman strangled her two daughters, including a 10-month-old baby, and ended her own life. The tragic incident took place at Murphy Town in Halasuru police station limits on Thursday night.
The deceased have been identified as Renuka and her daughters Nishita, 6, and Pavani (10 month old). Renuka was married to Hemanth, who works in a software company, about eight years ago. She was working as a lab technician at a private hospital.
According to the police, the incident came to light early on Friday morning after Hemanth returned home from nightshift. He found his wife and daughters dead and collapsed out of shock. Later, his parents, who were at home when the incident occurred but were unaware, informed the neighbours and the police were alerted about the incident. It is suspected that the incident might have taken place around 2 am.
“Renuka has left a note saying that no one was responsible for their death and has requested the family members to cremate them at their hometown in Chitradurga. However, preliminary probe revealed that her husband had debts of around R. 35 lakh and had no savings for children. Moneylenders were reportedly coming home everyday asking him to repay the debts and this had upset Renuka,” an official said.
The police are yet to question Hemanth and other family members to know more about the reasons. Meanwhile, Renuka’s parents have reportedly told the police that there was no problem between the couple and they do not know the reason behind the incident.
The Halasuru police have registered a case and are investigating.
