Bail plea of Viveka murder accused dismissed

First accused Yerragangi Reddy got bail in the case from a local court but CBI filed a petition in SC seeking cancellation of the bail

ANANTAPUR: The High Court bench has dismissed the bail petitions of three accused in the YS Vivekananda Reddy murder case on Monday, following objections from the CBI and Vivekananda Reddy’s daughter Sunitha, over likely threats from them to the witnesses when the investigations have reached its peak stage.

Second accused Sunil Yadav, third accused Gajjala Umashankar Reddy and fifth accused Devireddy Shivashankar Reddy, who were in judicial custody at Kadapa prison, had filed the bail petitions.

First accused Yerragangi Reddy got bail in the case from a local court. However, CBI recently filed a petition in Supreme Court seeking cancellation of the bail of Yerra Gangi Reddy, also on the ground he might influence the witnesses.

Another accused Dastagiri turned approver in the case and got bail a few weeks ago.

The trio filed bail petitions in the high court as defence counsel (for the accused) informed the high court that the CBI had already recorded the statements of witnesses and there existed no chance for them to influence the witnesses. Defence counsel also stated that no evidence existed to cite the involvement of these three accused in the murder and hence sought for bail, even conditional bail.

CBI and counsel of Sunitha informed the court that the three were already trying to influence the course of the case even while in judicial custody. A complaint was also lodged over a threat to life to an approver in the case, the court was told.

The HC bench dismissed the bail petitions of the trio.
