Two held for bid to sell antique in Hyderabad

The police immediately nabbed A Abdul Azeez, 25 and L Govind, 29, a contractor from Yousufguda.

Hyderabad: The SR Nagar police arrested two persons on Friday for trying to sell a 300-year-old antique Buddha idol carrying the Nagarika script and three positions of Buddha. Police said the 2.5 kg idol which the accused got as an inheritance from ancestors was priceless.

ACP Punjagutta M. Venkateswarlu said a complaint was received by the SR Nagar police alleging that two persons carrying a Buddha idol were trying to sell it for Rs 2 lakh saying that it was a Panchaloha idol.

The police immediately nabbed A. Abdul Azeez, 25, a resident of Nizampet X roads belonging to Pulivendula and L. Govind, 29, a contractor from Yousufguda.
It was found that Govind got it as an inheritance from his forefathers and wanted to sell it.

with the help of his friend Abdul Azeez. "Despite knowing that the idol was precious and antique they attempted to sell it and make money," the ACP said
The duo were arrested and remanded. Police also made an appeal to the public not to buy any antiques and inform the police if they find anyone trying to sell antiques.
