Hyderabad: A day after a homeguard’s wife committed suicide due to dowry harassment in Nacharam, another 21-year-old woman took her own life due to dowry harassment.
The deceased, Sai Deepika, 21, fell in love and married Komma Ashok, 25, an unemployed youth, in March this year without her parents’ knowledge. Problems started soon after the marriage as Ashok and his mother Upallamma started demanding Rs 5 lakh cash, 10 tola gold and a bike as dowry. On Friday Deepika’s sister, Dasari Udayasi, 24, lodged a complaint with the Nacharam police about her sister’s death due to dowry harassment.
She informed that on April 29, her husband and mother-in-law tried to set Deepika ablaze by pouring kerosene. However, she escaped and approached her parents, who brokered a compromise. She later went back to stay with her husband.
Udayasi received a call about her sister’s death. A case under Section 304 (b) has been registered against Ashok and his mother at Nacharam police station.
