Bengaluru: Girl foils heist at dad's jewel store

The incident took place a week ago at a jewellery store belonging to Raghu near Ashoka Pillar, but came to light on Friday.

Bengaluru: An alert daughter of a jewellery shop owner foiled a heist at her father’s jewellery showroom in south Bengaluru by taking on six helmet-wearing armed men, compelling them to leave empty-handed.

The incident took place a week ago at a jewellery store belonging to Raghu near Ashoka Pillar, but came to light on Friday.

The police who have registered a complaint, but are yet to trace the robbers as they had concealed their faces by wearing helmets. The police said that one of the six-member gang entered the showroom-cum residence late evening and asked Raghu to show a necklace. Raghu who was unaware of the man’s intention pulled out a necklace and handed it over to him.

The robber then pulled out a knife and alerted his gang members who were waiting outside.

All the six men, wielding knives, entered the showroom and threatened Raghu to hand over the jewellery.

A panic-stricken Raghu shouted for help. Before the robbers could lay their hands on the jewellery, Raghu’s daughter entered the showroom and she along with her father succeeded in pushing the robbers out.

The robbers were taken aback and ran away as they feared that the passersby may gather and catch them.

The entire incident was caught on the CCTV camera at the showroom. After examining the CCTV footage, the police said that most of the robbers were juvenile and not professional thieves.

“By looking at their behaviour we could easily make out that they weren’t professional thieves or perhaps it was their first attempt. We could not identify them. However, a manhunt is on to nab them,” the police said.
