Kozhikode: Ganja sellers target students; police arrest four
Kozhikode: The Town police on Wednesday seized three bags of dried ganja weighting 12 kilogram worth Rs 7 Lakh near Kallayi and arrested A Shekar (41), a native of Madurai, and three others who hail from the city. Sekhar is charged with trafficking the contraband while the others were held for selling it in various parts of Kozhikode district.
The three has been identified as T.P. Aadam (55) from Kallayi, A.T. Abdul Latheef (45) from Kudungal and K.V. Mohammed Salu (30) from Chakumkadavu.
The police arrested them following up on the clues Sekhar shared with the police. Town CI K.A. Boss said Shekhar had been transporting ganja to the city and selling it to his customers for Rs 600 per 100 grams.
“We have found out from the vendors that the products are mostly sold near schools and colleges and the major targets are students,” he said. The police has intensified its efforts to identify more such vendors in Kozhikode and frequent inspections at various parts of the city will be conducted as schools have reopened after summer vacation now, he said.
